Solidarity Not Charity
"Practicing financial solidarity is a way to thwart systemic racism, heteropatriarchy, xenophobia, transphobia, and classism by transferring money and power. Financial solidarity shifts the power dynamic from the donor or agency deciding who is ‘worthy’ to a practice of trust and mutual support." - stlmutualaid.org
Financial Solidarity and Wealth Redistribution
Financial Solidarity is a belief that income gaps perpetuate violence and disparities in multiple areas, including health and well-being, which disproportionately impact Black and Indigenous people, People of Color, people with disabilities, and those who are otherwise marginalized. There are ways to change this. Through redistributing wealth, the income gap shrinks and power shifts.
Financial solidarity looks differently for everyone. You may decide to contribute/redistribute $1/week, or maybe $1,000/week. There is nothing too little or big.
We are a zero-barrier group, with a mission to support individuals and families in Winooski - no questions asked. Money is a crucial component to having the most basic human needs met in today's capitalistic society. Many of the requests we receive are for families needing extra support to pay rent, bills, and for food.
We will gladly accept cash, gift cards, checks, or material item donations - please contact us directly to set this up.
Please note: We are working on obtaining 501(c)(3) non-profit status. At this moment, donations are not tax-deductible
