Who We Are & What We Do:

We are a group of volunteer community members who have joined together because we love Winooski and believe in the values of mutual aid: Solidarity Not Charity, Zero-Barriers, and No Questions Asked.  We meet weekly on zoom, and collaborate daily to answer requests and plan distributions and events.

We believe that everyone has something to offer, and strive to create a community where we can share what we've got and rely on one another!

What We Do:

  • Pop-Up Mutual Aid (PUMA): Every few weeks we bring essentials to different neighborhoods in Winooski to distribute (at no cost to recipients).  We ask community members to host mini-drives to collect the items, and we purchase where there are gaps with our donation fund. Items we bring include: culturally relevant food, period products, hygiene items, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning products, weather-appropriate clothing, and masks. We set-up an open-air "free market" for people to come and get what they need. No questions asked.

  • Fresh fruit and staple food delivery: On the last two Sunday's of each month, we deliver a large box of fresh fruits and other staple items (ex. rice, beans, oil, pasta, semolina flour, yogurt, cereal, eggs, milk) to 27 families in Winooski (170 people).

  • Diaper delivery: Every month we deliver diapers to 20 homes; 40 infants/toddlers.

  • Winter clothing drive and giveaway: In November, we hosted a winter clothing drive and giveaway. We received and redistributed hundreds of winter jackets, boots, snow pants, and other winter gear.  Over 100 families participated, and left with clothing for over 600 people!

  • Partnership with the Janet S. Munt Family Room: We collaborate closely with the Family Room and are so grateful for their support and solidarity!

  • Members of Vermont Foodbank: We are now members of the Vermont Foodbank! This will help bring food to our neighbors tremendously!

  • Diggers Mirth Farm Collective CSAs and Intervale Gleaning Program: This summer, we will receive 25+ culturally relevant farm shares PER WEEK from Diggers Mirth Collective Farm to support our neighbors! We plan to distribute these to people's homes weekly. The Intervale Gleaning Program will be providing us lots of local, fresh produce to bring to families and for our PUMA's.

  • Partnership with Iceberg Consulting, LLC and ONE Good Deed Fund, Burlington: Iceberg and WMA have been collaborating on the Pop-Up Mutual Aid events, and the thinking behind PUMA was presented by Iceberg! We are partnering with ONE Good Deed Fund to bring free pantries to Winooski this Spring!
